The weather has been pretty hit and miss of late and I haven’t been able to clear the debris from the pruning I have done or complete the pruning left to do!
The Farmer’s Almanac predicts a long winter this year so I need to make a real push in the next couple of weeks to get my cold frame built so I can get the seeds I’ve already started out to harden off and free up my kitchen table for sewing!
I took a trip to my local thrift store to pick up a glass door to use for the cold frame. If you are in the US I would wholeheartedly recommend the Habitat for Humanity Restore which sells furniture and building materials and the proceeds all go to building housing for low income families.
If you are in the Salt Lake City area visit the Restore, check out their website Habitat Salt Lake. I was also very fond of one Restore in New Jersey for awesome furniture to upcycle if you live there check out Randolph Restore.
In the UK get on your local Freecycle to see about free glass doors and windows or the local scrapyard or the dump.
I will be posting a how-to as I build the cold frame later this month.
I have already started my seeds off indoors and more are to come; its exciting times even if it is still the dead of winter!
